After the fire
On June 26, 2019, the fire in Ribera d’Ebre consumed 5,046 hectares of fields and woodland, making it the second most destructive fire in modern Catalonia’s history. Observing it from a distance was heart-wrenching, as it devoured the rural landscape—once lush with cultivated areas and Mediterranean forests.
Two months later, I was approached by the Pau Costa Foundation. They commissioned me to create a concise photo reportage on the aftermath of the fire. Their request was simple: capture images of green shoots emerging from the charred remains—a symbol of resilience and hope rising from the ashes.
