Correfoc
Correfocs, also known as the dance of the devils, are fire runs that represent light defeating darkness. They are thought to have their origins in the Middle Ages. Correfocs take place in Catalonia during specific festivities such as the end of Carnival, the night of the Summer Solstice, and during the celebrations of the patron saint of the city. Groups of people dressed as devils dance to the sound of drums through the narrow streets, accompanied by dragons and other fire belching beasts. Revelers wearing straw hats to protect themselves from the shower of sparks, join the anarchic procession until the final momentous display.
